The two gold crowns refer to the juxtaposition of the English Prince returning triumphant and victorious in his Gothic gold armor and crown contrasted to that of Christ's crown of thorns with a glowing golden halo. As a portraitist, Victorian Frank Dicksee exhibited at the Royal Academy and was particulary renowned for his series of oil paintings of Medieval Shakespearean characters, following his father, Thomas Francis Dicksee's lead.
