Venus on the Waves, 1769: Canvas Replica Painting: Medium
By artist Francois Boucher (1703-1770), in the J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles, California
Sale price: $409.00
Commissioned in the Rococo style for a late 18th century Parisian home, this image is a detail of the full size work and conjures putti attending Venus, the goddess of love. It was in Nazi possession during World War II until being rescued and returned five years later. French artist Boucher, a proponent of Rococo tastes, was known for his classical themes as well as for his portraits of his benefactor, Madame de Pompadour. The authentic stretched canvas replica painting captures the original work's texture, depth of color, and even its subtle brushstrokes, which are applied by hand exclusively for Design Toscano. Unique in its circular shape, the imported, gold-toned quality designer resin frame is embellished with a leaf motif. Medium: 37"Wx37"H. framed (27"Wx27"H. image size, 5"W. frame)
